I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year. I hate the cold – like I really despise it. Put me in a tropical climate and I’ll feel much more at home. But I do love the feeling of being wrapped up warm in front of the television, enjoying a movie with a hot chocolate. It’s important that we do everything possible to look after ourselves during this time, so here are some tips to look after yourself during the winter.
Get Good Footwear For Icy Conditions
Not everywhere experiences icy weather but for those occasions where you do, it’s always important to have good footwear on. If you’re someone who works in the city or in an environment where you’re wearing heels of any kind, walk to the workplace in trainers. It’s essential you’re wearing footwear that provides enough grip to keep you grounded and not ending up face planting the floor in some comical slip and slide routine. If it’s icy, make sure you have suitable footwear ready for when you’re going out into it.
Be Careful Around The Home
There can be many tripping hazards around the home that you won’t notice until it’s too late. It’s quite common for those to experience condo and apartment injuries. And if you land on any part of your body badly, it can end up with you out of work and in a lot of pain. Try to be warier around the home, identifying any tripping hazards and dealing with them as soon as they’re spotted. The more vigilant you can be, the less likely you’ll have injuries or accidents in the home. After all, when it comes to injuries, most will often occur in our own homes.
Top Up On Your Vitamins
Vitamins are essential for our body to function properly and thrive in the way that we need it to. With that being said, it’s worth topping up on your vitamins where necessary in order to continue feeling your best. It’s always worth consulting your doctor in the case of taking multiple vitamins at once so that you know exactly what you do and don’t need to be taking. Many of us are often lacking in some form of vitamins without even realising. One common vitamin that most British people are lacking in, especially during this time of year is Vitamin D. Myself and Sam take tablets every day to ensure we’re getting enough.
Keep Yourself Wrapped Up Warm
Catching a chill by being under-dressed can certainly cause you to catch a common cold and with the deadly Covid-19 virus going around, it’s important to keep yourself wrapped up warm. Make sure you have multiple wooly hats, scarves, and gloves. I’ve just got myself a new coat which is sure to keep me warm whenever we’re out over this winter period. Take this opportunity to stock up on any winter warmers that you’ve not yet purchased since the start of the autumnal season.
Get Plenty Of Hot Fluids On A Daily Basis
Hot fluids are a must during this time of year, whether its soup, cups of tea, or endless hot chocolates with whipped cream and marshmallows. You can tell which one I have the most of just from that sentence. Hot chocolates for the win! You can never have enough hot liquids to keep your body warm and to hopefully keep that cold from hitting you.
