Tips To Get A Better Night’s Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is certainly essential when it comes to your health and the overall wellbeing of your mind and body. There are certainly some benefits to getting a good night’s sleep but for some, including me, that can sometimes be difficult. It takes me a little while to get off to sleep as my mind is often running at 100 miles an hour. However, here are some of the tips I’ve learned that help me get a better night’s sleep.

Invest In Your Mattress

The right mattress can go along way in providing your body with comfort and support for your body whilst you’re sleeping. We paid £800 for ours and although there are cheaper options out there, the quality of our mattress isn’t defeated since we bought it. We’ve stayed in many a hotel bed and at friends but there’s nothing quite like our own bed. The mattress is firm but soft enough and it’s a mixture of memory foam and spring, so it’s got the best of both worlds. If you’re struggling to sleep, it might be due to the type of mattress you’re sleeping on. If your mattress is over eight years old then it might be worth finding a new one if it’s not the same as it used to be. A good way to make your mattress last is by turning it over and around on a regular basis. The Hugge Luxury Memory Foam Mattress is definitely one to consider as your next mattress choice!

Get An Eye Mask

The biggest problem that I face when it comes to sleeping is that any sort of light coming into the room is likely to keep me awake. When I close my eyes, it’s hard to keep them shut and so when I first tried an eye mask, before I knew it, I was fast asleep. That’s because when I open my eyes, I can’t see anything so it tricks my mind into falling asleep faster. I currently have the above eye mask from Panda London and it’s gorgeous. It’s made out of bamboo and it’s ultra-silky on my eyes so it won’t damage them or cause the dreaded wrinkles around my eyes. It’s definitely worth getting if you’ve not tried them before.

Avoid Caffeine In The Afternoon

Caffeine is the best thing in the world but it can also be the enemy when you’re trying to fall asleep. I can drink multiple cups of coffee per day but too many and it will start to have an impact on your health! I try and cap myself at 2-3 cups of coffee per day. And where I can, I will ensure that I don’t drink past a certain time in the afternoon. The exception for this is when we’re going out for dinner and I’ll have a coffee for dessert. Avoiding caffeine in the afternoon will allow your body to naturally tire out instead of pumping it with more caffeine that’s going to keep you wired into the evening, making it harder to fall asleep.

Do Exercise In The Evening

Exercise is essential to feel fit and healthy but it can also be good for getting a better night’s sleep. Whenever we have a PT session in the evening, it tires me out and results in me falling asleep a lot faster. If you’ve not got time to work out early in the evening, do a quick cardio session for 15-20 minutes before settling into bed. It’s going to help with tiring your body out and using up as much of that energy that you have left in your body.
