Six Ways To Help Keep Your Home Clutter-Free

Clutter is the killer of space, and if you’ve noticed that there’s a lot of clutter that regularly gathers around your floor space and on surfaces where it just takes up too much room, then you’ll want to tackle it in your home.

Keeping your home clutter-free is challenging at the best of times, but even more so when it comes to doing it with children running around the place. With that being said, you need to follow a schedule that works for you and a routine that will help you keep on top of the clutter, even when you’re pressed for time.

1.Start by decluttering your entire house

Firstly, it’s beneficial to set some time aside so that you can have a full declutter of the home. This might be a one-day job, or it could be something that takes a few days to do. If you’ve got kids, look to ferry them off to a family member for the day just so you can really empty every possible cupboard and drawer in your home.

By completely clearing out each room of the clutter, you’ve got a much better canvas to start again from. You may find that you’ve solved the problem somewhat simply by going through everything you’ve got in your home currently. It might free up storage that you didn’t have before, and now helps to store stuff that would otherwise be on the floor or on a surface, taking up space.

2.Find storage space for everything and anything

Finding storage for your stuff is important because the more you can clear of your clutter from the floor in particular, helps to free up the floor space you have available.

The problem with a lot of homeowners is that they simply don’t have enough storage options. From basic storage boxes made out of plastic to wardrobe inserts made out of felt.

The more you can incorporate storage space solutions into your home, the more it’ll help to free up the clutter around your property.

3.Create a habit of putting things away

One of the problems that people have when it comes to being overwhelmed with clutter is that they don’t always have a habit of putting things away. If you’re putting things away, you’re immediately getting rid of the problem of it being out on a kitchen countertop or on your bedside table.

Creating the habit is the actual challenge, though, especially if you’ve got yourself into the routine of leaving things out. It’s something that might take time to correct, but like any habit, it takes a bit of practice until it becomes something you just do naturally.

4.Schedule mini decluttering sessions for everyone in the household

It’s always good to do a few decluttering sessions can but not to the extent that you did to begin with. These mini decluttering sessions are something that could take five or ten minutes to do, and it might be just the one room that you focus on that day specifically.

However, over the days and weeks, these mini decluttering sessions are going to help keep on top of the mess that would otherwise be overtaking your home.

Mindful shopping is not just something that benefits your home when it comes to clutter, but it also benefits your bank balance. At the same time, you’re benefiting the environment by buying less, too. With that being said, always be mindful of what you’re shopping for when it comes to your home. The more you can save on your shopping trips by buying less, the more likely you’ll avoid cluttering up your home again.

6.Emotionally detach from what is essential rubbish

Finally, this point is probably the hardest one to action, even for me. Emotionally detaching from the items in your house will help you to truly determine whether something holds much value or whether it’s time to get rid of it. Whether it’s something that’s broken and needs throwing out, to items that you’ve outgrown and need to either sell or donate.

It can greatly help your home by emotionally detaching from the belongings you have around your home. The more you detach, the more you can get rid of when those items in question no longer hold any benefit.

Decluttering can be incredibly healthy for your household, mentally, and to help free up space that you might need. Use these tips to declutter and to create a more put-together home or spaces that desperately need a decluttering.
