10 Must-Have Pieces For Autumn ’22

As we head into Autumn, it’s time to explore the must-have pieces for this autumn. To my surprise, what’s been suggested by most online fashion outlets, is what I have already available in my wardrobe. With autumn, I do feel like a lot of the clothing you buy can be reused and worn for years and years. It’s not typically a season that I shop a lot for when it comes around, unless the items I own, have seen better days.

I’ve put together ten must-have pieces for this autumn season to be inspired by when it comes to treating yourself at the end of the month (or whenever your payday might be). Below each item, I’ve put together a widget of pieces to choose from, with some both from UK brands and US brands. It still blows my mind that I have an audience that’s mostly the UK but also has many US readers! Must be my new found American family influence…

1. Oversized jackets

First up – the oversized jacket. When it comes to this type of weather, you want an overcoat option that is going to cover you up and fit over other layers you’ve created underneath. I hate being cold, so this oversized jacket is the perfect piece to add to my wardrobe. Oversized works for any shape and size, even for the moderately curvy woman that I am. I find it hard to distinguish myself in body shape because I would consider myself curvy but according to most ‘curvy’ sizing, I’m not. Anyway, here are a few favourites that I’ve found on the web for oversized jackets.

2. A cosy jumper

Autumn is officially jumper season and you best believe that I transitioned my summer wardrobe at the end of September because I HATE THE COLD. I feel like I’ll probably say that a bazillion times on my blog over the next few months but we move. A cosy jumper is an absolute must-have in your wardrobe. I have several jumpers in my wardrobe but there’s definitely one or two that are my go-to favourites. You can never have too many jumpers, just like you can never have too many bags!

3. Knee-high boots

My favourite in this whole autumnal trend is knee-high boots. They’re just a classic type of footwear that is a must-have during the autumn. Typically during this time of year, there’s a lot of dry weather to enjoy, which means you can get the knee-high boots out! Both of the pairs I own are suede so they would only be best for those occasions where it’s not raining. I love pairing them with skirts and dresses, as well as dressing them down for casual occasions with jeans.

4. A casual black dress

That little black dress is one that is a staple to have in any wardrobe throughout the year.  Last year I got myself a black and white dress (mainly black though) and I forgot how much I loved wearing all black. I’m going to have to add a few black dresses to my wardrobe this season as it’s a casual black dress that always goes down a treat.

5. Midi silk skirt

For those nights when you want to dress up but can’t be bothered to go all out, the midi silk skirt is a great choice. It’s something you can pair up well with a gorgeous shirt/top but can also be dressed down for casual days with a woolly jumper.

If you’re a big fan of silk, like I am, then you’ll definitely want to treat yourself to a couple of colour variations in this type of skirt this season.

6. A practical tote bag

Tote bags are life. I actually need more tote bags in my life because they’re so convenient. When you’re someone who shoves everything in their bag, including the kitchen sink, it’s a good bag to own. They are a great casual bag, perfect for commuting to and from work or using it as a travel bag for your holidays. I always use my Longchamp tote bag for those days when I’m out and about with a bag full of shit I don’t need to carry around.

7. White plimsolls

White plimsolls are perfect for those dry days when you don’t fancy wearing big chunky boots. Plimsolls also make for a great option when you want to dress down an outfit or prioritise comfort on a night out over wearing sky-high heels. Who even wears heels nowadays? Maybe it’s my age, but the idea of wearing heels on a night out in London is just not the one anymore.

8. A trench coat

Timeless in its appearance, the trench coat has been a staple fashion piece for as long as I can remember. It’s an iconic coat type and I’m in need of one as the last one I had, I ended up taking it to charity after I thought I no longer needed it. However, I should have kept hold of it because I now miss that coat. I’ve seen lots of women lately wearing a Pheobe from Friends-inspired, brown leather trench that I NEED. See below for all of your trench coat needs this autumn/winter.

9. Cord trousers

Funnily enough, I owned some cord trousers until recently. What happened you ask? I ripped them from bending down. Yes, the gym gains I’ve been building up over the past six months resulted in my peachy bum bursting out of the trousers. I know, I was half impressed, half mortified when it happened – yep it happened in public too.

However, since we also got into a major car crash that day, the ripping of the cord trousers was the LEAST of my problems that day. So with that being said, I’m in need of cord trousers.

10. A cardigan

Finally, who can go through autumn/winter without a cardigan? It’s like a must! If you haven’t got a cardigan in your wardrobe – are you CRAZY? Please for the love of everything cardigan, treat yourself to this beautiful piece of clothing. You won’t regret it.
